The night blooming cereus, is a cactus like vine that is climbing up the palm tree in my back yard. In December 1989 we had serious freezes here and it killed the cereus plant, but obviously not the roots because it has grown clear to the top of the tree and spread out. I have missed most of the blooms because I'm not home during the week. I could see these buds way down low and was afraid I was going to miss them, but they waited for me and bloomed last night. They only bloom after dark and when the sun comes up the next morning they wilt and are gone. One of the blooms was actually on the ground.

Space Shuttle is brought back to Florida

Just wanted to share this picture that a friend of mine took. I already put it on Facebook but not everyone is on there. She lives on the beach and was on her pool deck but usually has her camera close. The plane was really low, about as low as the little planes that pull advertising banners behind them.

Happy Birthday Tamara
June 4th was Tamara's 40th birthday. Unfortunately she had to work, and even though she left on time the weather was so terrible that it took her an hour and a half to get home. However, LD had gotten steaks, crab legs and lobster tails, which he cooked on the grill. What did we do before cell phones, he called her to find out where she was on the highway so he could time the cooking. I had made brownies which Samantha decorated and we decided that she didn't need 40 candles. Luckily I got the pictures I did because my camera battery needed charging so I didn't get more. The flowers were from Alina & Nick, Kirsten and Carl. LD gave her a new computer. She was very frustrated with the old computer so it was a good choice. A good time was had by all and Tamara said she would have been too tired to go out to eat and Luke Michael isn't at an age where he will sit still, so LD got all her favorite foods. It was all good, but the crab legs were excellent. I've never prepared them so I was impressed.

Oma's Helper
When I arrive at Tamara's on Sunday evening Alex is supposed to come out and help me get my stuff out of my car. Well, a couple of months ago Luke Michael decided he could do it. It doesn't matter that the suitcase is bigger than he is. He will allow no one to help. Tamara tried pulling up the handle last week and he promptly pushed it back down and pulled it out himself. When Alex took the suitcase in he just set it inside the bedroom door. Luke Michael knows where I keep it and he pushes down the handle and with the little handle sets it right next to the bureau and lays it down ready for me to open. He is very particular about details.
